Types of Timber
Here at Truro Portable buildings we offer several different types of timber, read on below to find out a bit more about them
Deal – The sawn wood of various coniferous trees, such as that from the Scots pine (red deal) or from the Norway Spruce (white deal). In our case not tanalised (see below) this will need treatment by hand at least once a year.
Tanalised – Pressurised timber and Tanalised timber are in fact the same thing. This type of timber is carefully treated with a chemical mixture that makes the wood strong and durable. The treatment, often known as Tanalith E, is applied under pressure which ensures that the chemicals absorb deeply into the wood. Pressure treated/tanalised timber is much more resistant to rot, mould, fungus, insects and extreme weather conditions. Our most common timber, we still recommend an oil or solvent based preservative once a year. available in 12mm, 16mm or 19mm finish
Thermowood – Is heat-treated to temperatures in excess of 200 degrees Centigrade creating ThermoWood ‘D’. This thermal modification process improves the wood’s properties, thereby expanding the range of applications and longevity in which it can be used. available 16mm
Larch – This wood is very stable, so there is minimal movement. It is naturally impervious to infestation and most diseases. When cladding with Larch, you know that it will be able to withstand the Siberian winter so you are getting great durability through the seasons.
Dip Treated – We have our own dip tanks at Truro Portable Buildings. these are deal panels (see above) that are dipped in our tank of red cedar oil based preservative. This acts as a primer coat and we recommend coating regularly with your own preservative, treat as a deal panel
Roll Log – 19mm finish roll log is great for a superior look. It gives the appearance of something that is more chunky than standard shiplap, available tanalised
Feather Edge – More rustic looking overlap appearance but very solid, the overlaps give roughly a 20mm overall thickness, available in tanalised
I'm extremely pleased with my new garden shed from Truro Portable Buildings, and also with their treatment of me as a customer. The shed is a first class product, excellent quality, delivered in a short timescale and erected in about two hours. The process of choosing a design was made easy by quickly-answered phone calls, and the honesty of the management was demonstrated when I was stopped from accidentally over-paying! Great team, great product. - S Ellis
Really happy with my 10x8 pent shed, good quality and easy to self assemble, all fitted together perfectly. Supplier offered good advice and helpful. Would recommend - P Oliver

Terrific building and company. I had a 12x8 Sherman built in August, great to be able to remove the old eyesore from the garden and get sorted again. Great build quality, speed of order was fair and the fitters were timely and no stress. Glad I went for the superior shed from Truro Portable Buildings, I would highly recommend. Very pleased - P Ascott
